Spring Break, Snow, and Hot Chocolate

The first day of Spring Break and there is snow is on the ground. There is something just not fair about that! Spring Break is supposed to be all about breaking into spring, warmer weather, fun stuff... Not shoveling snow. So I suppose today's spring break activities will take place indoors. Maybe we will make cookies or some other winter break-like activity! The kids do take it in stride, but it still doesn't seem fair. Maybe this is why, when spring break came around last year, we headed south. To Texas. To warm weather. Yes, that would definitely been a good choice. But, here we are, in Northern Illinois, in the snow, so we will make the best of it. Maybe see if we can make a snow man. Break out the hot chocolate! Here is a hot chocolate recipe for you to try if you don't have any in the house....

Mom's Home Made Hot Chocolate Mix
1 large box of powdered milk
1-2 pound bag of powdered sugar
1 canister of cocoa powder
1 larger canister of non-dairy creamer

Combine all ingredients in a large plastic container and shake well. For an individual serving, mix 1/3 cup of powder with 8 ounces hot water or for an even creamier cup of cocoa, make it with hot milk!

Here's another idea.... dehydrate mini marshmallows with a food dehydrator! This will give you the crunchy little marshmallows that you find in the commercial hot chocolate mixes. Then add to your cup of hot chocolate. Store mix in a sealed container in a cool dry place.

Enjoy! And I truly hope that you don't have to endure snow on your spring break!
