Crochet veggies!

Okay so here are some basic directions to make some crochet cotton veggies...

Pick your veggie, I have so far made.... a tomato, carrot, eggplant, potato, ear of corn, and a cucumber.

I used a size G hook and cotton worsted weight yarn. Start with the coordinating color for your veggie.
Lets start with the tomato... With red yarn.... ( and I find it easiest to mark the 1st stitch of each row to keep track)

Chain 2.
Row 1: 6 sc in the 1st chain stitch made.
Row2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 st)
Row 3: 2 sc in each st around (24 st)
Row 4: sc in each stitch around (24 st)
repeat row 4 until tomato is the right size of "round" for your taste. Then decrease evenly in each row to close, stuff with fabric scraps before closing and finishing off. Weave in ends.
To put the top stem or leaves on, attach a green yarn and chain up 4-5 and slip stitch back down the chain, slipstitch into next st and repeat until desired # of leaves are achieved. Finish off and weave in ends.

For other veggies, adjust the # of increases for the size of veggie. For a carrot, start with just 4 sc in the 1st chain and increase slowly, only getting up to about 8-10 stitches around and make a tube. For the corn, after I made the yellow tube, I turned it inside out to give it a more nubby look for the kernels.

Have fun and be creative!

I LOVE these! Especially the corn .. how cute! I wish I could crochet. Unfortunately I've never been able to crochet more than a single line and there's not much you can make with that, lol.
