So last Thursday was my grandmother's 85th birthday. We had her big birthday bash on Saturday. It was so much fun. She has 5 daughters, 16 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. All of her daughters were there, with respective spouses; all but 4 of her grandchildren were there, with their spouses and children. And her sister's daughter came all the way from Pennsylvania to be with her. In all, there were, (if I counted right), 55 people attending this birthday bash, and 27 of them were age 16 or under (about 20 of them actually age 10 or under!)
It was so great so see all of her family here celebrating with her. We all wrote out our favorite memory with her and a question to ask her about her life. There were questions like "How did Grandpa propose?", and "How much did your first car cost?", and "Did you and Grandpa ever go out dancing?" She struggled to answer some of the questions, or chose not to "remember" (I think she just didn't want to answer!). We played it like Who wants to be a Millionaire and gave her life lines she could use to help answer. The great grandchildren sang her a song that my mother wrote to the tune of "Home on the Range" called "Home on the Farm". My cousin sang her her favorite hymn. There was a ton of good, home cooked food. And of course there were the infamous pictures of Grandma surrounded by all the kids.
Everyone had a grand time and will remember the big birthday bash for "the Grandma" for years to come! I will try and add pictures of the party soon.
