Kermit the frog says it's not easy being green. But you can make some green changes to your family's life to make an impact on the earth and your pocket book. Green living is all about Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Here are some changes that I made in my family...
An easy one is to change out your standard light bulbs for florescent bulbs. They even make the fancy globe bulbs for chandeliers in florescent. We started doing this every time a lightbulb blew out then we would replace it with a florescent bulb. Or if you have some lights that you use more often than others swap the bulbs... put florescents in the ones used most and save the others for the ones not used as much.
Another way to save money is stop buying laundry detergent. I haven't bought laundry soap in about 10 months! My family's clothing is still clean, too! I make my own laundry soap and it works wonderfully! Click HERE for instructions!
We also make our own all-purpose cleaning spray. Mix a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice with 2 tablespoons of washing soda and a cup of hot water. Mix until dissolved. Pour into a spray bottle and fill the rest of the way with water. Use as you would any other all-purpose cleaning spray!
We use the 3 R's in our clothing all the time! Reduce: we've reduced the amount of new clothing we buy by Reusing! We buy a lot of ours and our kids' clothes at the local 2nd hand store, and also take what we don't need and donate there. So that is also recycling! A) It saves us money, as we don't spend as much on our clothes (we wait for the fill a basket for $4 day) and B) It keeps usable clothes out of the landfills.
Those are some easy ways that we have implemented green living in my family. Try it! Save some money! Feel better about yourself! It IS easy being green!
